Learn more about the BeeFriendly and the bees.
About the BeeFriendly
The BeeFriendly is a stylish Flowerbox combining a safe nesting site for wild solitary bees with a planting space for a beautiful wildflower mix, meaning a food source for the bees is never far away.
About the Bees
Solitary bees are facing massive decline, in part due to habitat loss, the use of insecticides in rural areas or a lack of food sources connected to huge monocultures in conventional agriculture.
By using the BeeFriendly you are helping the bees to continue the vital pollination work they are also fascinating to watch and safe to encourage around children and pets as they are non-aggressive.
In contrast to honeybees, solitary bees have no queen or honey to protect, meaning they won’t sting. Since they feed themselves and their larvaes with nectar of flowers, they are not interested in the food you consume in the garden or on your balcony.
They just love living in the cities as much as you do and can make great use of the colorful wildflower mix that you share with them!
Lifecylce of the wild bees
The Season of the bees starts in March and ends in June. The male wild bees only live 1-2 weeks and disappear after mating. The female bees live longer, 4 up to 7 weeks, and are responsible for breeding the next generation.
Every year the wild bees hatch between March and June when it gets warmer, depending on weather conditions, temperature and availability of flowers as food source.
Where to put the BeeFriendly
The best placement includes some protecting from bad weather conditions as rain or wind. Preferably is a direction from north-east to south with some sunlight, since the bees like the sun, just like the flowers. However when your location points in a different locations that’s not a problem for the bees and we will be happy to send you flower seeds for weaker incidence of light.
